More than a place to live. A framework for a full life.

Shepherd's Way is a residential program that pairs adults with intellectual disabilities with qualified mentors in a real home. Together, they build the skills, habits, and confidence needed for a genuinely independent life.

The Model

A home built on relationship.

Every Shepherd's Way home begins with the same core model: two mentors and two participants living together in a four-bedroom house. This structure is intentional. The 1:1 ratio ensures each participant receives the individual coaching and support they need, while the shared living environment builds the social skills and community connection that matter just as much as practical independence.

Program participants are matched with a compatible, qualified mentor who is trained to teach, guide, and advocate for them across every area of life. Mentors are supported and approved by Shepherd's Way staff and financial sponsors. Family members are always welcome, and participants are considered residents of their home in every sense of the word.

As independence grows and participants continue to reach their goals, adjustments to living arrangements and the mentor/participant ratio adapts to fit their new level of independence.

Our Approach

Independent living in phases

The program of Shepherd's Way progresses as the participant is able to take on more responsibilitly. The participant can progress through stages of independent living. Progression is individualized and overseen by Professional Clinical Oversight.

Phase 1

Individualized Career Development.

Phase 2

Grouping involves 2 participants with 2 live-in mentors.

Phase 3

Grouping involves 2-3 participants with 1 live-in mentor.

Phase 4

Involves 3-5 participants with sustained support development.

Phase 5

Long-term, independent living with sustained support.

Cost

We work with every family.

Shepherd's Way works with each participant and their family to develop a monthly budget that fits within their individual means. Mentors work alongside participants to learn and implement that budget as part of the program itself, treating financial management as a real, teachable life skill.

Expenses beyond the agreed budget remain the responsibility of the participant's family. Our goal over time is to expand fundraising efforts to cover extracurricular expenses and provide financial aid for families with exceptional need. We are committed to ensuring that cost is not a barrier to someone who belongs in this program.
